Lady dogs fall to Logansport on a late corner 2-1. They overcame a nervous 1st goal in the first 10 minutes. Yadira Lopez scored the lone goal for the Lady Dogs off a rebound shortly after the Berries scored to open the game.
The Dogs played with a new energy after giving up the early goal and really owned possession the rest of the half. The momentum carried into the second half; the Dogs just couldn’t capitalize out shooting the Berries 12 to 6.
Plaguing the Lady Dogs was adjusting to the speed of the turf field and the new offside rules; with the Dogs being flagged 5 times. Many would consider the number of offsides the Dogs collected as an indication of poor officiating but both teams were called even with the Berries collecting a few more fouls to even out the calls.
Overall the ladies played well; highlighted by nice varsity debuts by Ely Cruz, Kya King and Maria Alanis. With solid leadership from returning varsity team members. Even though the game ended in a loss the looks improve with each game and there were several things that the Dogs can work before their next game. This was a season opening loss so the team’s record stands at 0-1 (Conference 0-0). The Lady Dogs pick up play again next Monday at home against Eastern High School.
Player of the Game goes to Ely Cruz. The Junior goalie made her first varsity start and even though 2 balls managed to get by her she improved through the game in confidence and saved an additional 4 shots while disrupting many other offensive chances that didn’t become a shot.
