Amid all of the storm warning that Central Indiana received in the late afternoon and early evening; there was one warning that didn’t happen. That was Crawfordsville getting a warning that was going to be another storm on the field. The Lady Hot Dogs improved their season record to 2-1 with a strong start to Sagamore Conference play (1-0) by beating a young and scrappy Crawfordsville team.
Although it took the Lady Dogs some time to start scoring goals; they were given that time by Ely Cruz in goal and the rest of the defensive line setting the tone that nothing the Athenians wanted to do would be easy.
Flor Lopez kicked off the scoring for the Dogs late in the first half. Followed shortly by freshman Maria Alanis netting her second goal of the season. The Dogs raced out to add a 3rd goal before the Athenians were able to finally get one past Ely Cruz and her defense. However, Flor added her second goal of the game to push the lead back to three with a little over 20 minutes left to play. The final goal was scored by sophomore newcomer Rylee Seibert netting her first career goal.
Besides the scoring outburst the Lady Dogs continued their trend of putting up big shot numbers (22) against the 7 that Crawfordsville managed to get off. Some early season scoring streaks to keep an eye on Alejandra Hernandez Cruz, Flor Lopez and Maria Alanis all have a two game scoring streak heading into the weekend.
Player of the Game is an easier choice than last Monday; with 2 goals and 1 assist it goes to Junior Captain Flor Lopez. Next up for the Lady Dogs is this Saturday at 9am against Rossville in the Hot Dog Invite.
