Girls Junior Varsity Soccer, Girls Varsity Soccer · Lady Hot Dogs Settle for a Tie

The Lady Dogs played a highly competitive game against Northwestern Thursday night; looking to keep their 3 game winning streak alive. Both teams came out and set the tone that it was going to be a defensive possession oriented game. At half time the score hadn’t changed 0-0. The Hot Dogs put the first score on the board from an Alejandra Hernandez Cruz shot early in the second half.

With the way the game had been played up to that point it appeared that was going to be enough for the Lady Dogs to continue their winning streak. Especially, considering the great goalie play from Junior Ely Cruz. Who has been on a hot streak with aggressive play and stopping scoring opportunities. However, some defensive line issues lead to Northwestern sneaking a shot into the back of the net to tie the game at 1 goal apiece.

Playing back to back days had a small impact on the game with the Lady Dogs nursing a few minor injuries. Thankfully, the game against Northwestern wasn’t as physical to put players out of the game due to injury. Although, the Hot Dogs did pick up a few more nagging injuries which should have plenty of time to heal over the holiday weekend.

Next game up for the Lady Dogs is a conference clash against Southmont at home on Tuesday. The Hot Dogs will look to add another conference victory after winning their conference opener against Crawfordsville. The tie against Northwestern puts the season record at 3-1-1.

In JV action the Lady Dogs pulled out a 3-2 victory in another highly competitive game. The JV girls played well in their first action of the season. All 3 goals came from Freshman Carolyne Morales, also a varsity contributor. The JV goal keeping also had a great game with Beatriz Tovar (7 saves) and Marisol Cervantes (5 saves) splitting time and frustrating the Northwestern shooters with aggressive play.
