Tuesday night the Lady Hot Dogs had their second conference game of the season; looking to extend their conference record to 2-0. However, Southmont had other plans and came out aggressive in the offensive end. With the Mounties opening up a 2 goal lead in the first 15 minutes of game action.
The back line and goal keeping were not quite up to the same standards coming out of the long holiday weekend as they were going into it. However, the Lady Dogs made some adjustments to help stem the flow of Southmont goals.
The Lady Dogs got on the board from an Emily Kelly goal being assisted by Flor Lopez. However, the Dogs couldn’t capitalize further with the Mounties getting their 3rd goal shortly after Emily scored. The second Hot Dog goal came from a PK after Southmont committed a handball in the box; with Flor Lopez capitalizing putting the free shot into the back of the net. Making the score 3-2 in Southmont’s favor. Once again the Lady Dogs couldn’t contain the Mounties offensive and gave up another quick goal to push the score to 4-2 going into halftime.
Both teams made adjustments at the half the really prevented much scoring with the Mounties playing more defensively to stop the Hot Dog attack. Although the score doesn’t show it the Lady Dogs played much better in the second half just some missed opportunities combined with the defensive Southmont focus didn’t allow the Dogs to find the back of the net.
The loss drops the overall season record to 3-2-1 with a 1-1 Sagamore Conference record. Up next for the Lady Hot Dogs is Faith Christian on Thursday.
Player of the Game goes to Flor Lopez by being involved in both Hot Dog scores.
