Girls Junior Varsity Soccer, Girls Varsity Soccer · Lady Dogs Lose a Tough One

Tuesday night the Lady Hot Dog soccer team took on sectional opponent West Lafayette in a JV/Varsity double header. A tough game became even harder with several starters having to miss the game due to injury. The game started off well with the Lady Dogs playing with Red Devils for the entire first half; giving up a single goal about 15 minutes into the game.

After halftime the Dogs came out and looked to equalize but overextended a little and got beat on a counter attack by the Red Devils to push the score to 2-0. The possession oriented Red Devils then controlled the remainder of play with very little opportunities for the Dogs to capitalize on. Their offensive mindset lead them to pull away and end up with a 7-0 win.

There was some great play by the Lady Dogs; with Jessica Carapia having some nice crosses into the box that just unfortunately found the wrong color jersey. Although the score doesn’t show it the back line played extremely well for missing a few of the usual starters. With Kya King playing some tremendous defense and containing one of WL top goal scores for the first half and with Nallely Alanis using her athleticism to help stymie the Red Devil attack for the vast majority of the game. All while playing on the back line instead of her usual central midfield role.

Next up for the Lady Dogs is Northmont on Thursday with the team looking to get its second conference win of the season. It will be a tough game but the Dogs are confident that the shooting touch will come back. The loss brought the season record to 3-3-1 (1-1).

Player of the Game: Nallely Alanis for outstanding defensive play in a new position.
