On Wednesday night the Lady Hot Dog soccer team traveled to Crawfordsville to open up Sagamore Conference play. Even though the Lady Dogs started out flat they managed to get on the board first when Flor Lopez made a nice pass that was put into the back of the net by Yadira Lopez. The LHDs managed to extend their lead when Maria Alanis netted a deflection off of a Crawfordsville defender. The score at halftime stood 2-0 in favor of the Hot Dogs.
The Hot Dogs made some slight adjustments at halftime hoping to start the second half with more of a spark to continue the offensive push. However, it was Crawfordsville that found the spark managing 3 fairly early shots. The defense responded by contesting the shots and only allowing 1 more shot the rest of the night.
The Lady Hot Dog offense managed to net 2 more goals in the second half to make it a much more comfortable lead against a Crawfordsville team that can score in bunches. The 3rd goal was scored by Flor Lopez scoring her 5th goal of the season which also put her in a tie with classmate Alejandra Hernandez Cruz on the all time scoring list. However, the tie didn’t last long as Alejandra scored off a set piece just outside the 18-yard line; which moved her into a 3-way tie for 5th all time on the girl’s scoring list.
The Lady Hot Dogs 4-0 win moves them to 3-0 overall with a 1-0 Sagamore Conference record. Next up for the Hot Dogs is their own tournament on Saturday when they open up against an experienced Western Panthers team.
The JV Dogs also won by a score of 4-0 with 2 goals by Carolyne Morales and 1 each by Maria Alanis and Ari Regalado. The JV Dogs are 3-1 on the season.
