Girls Junior Varsity Soccer, Girls Varsity Soccer · Lady Hot Dogs Earn Split

On Saturday the Lady Hot Dogs hosted the Western Panthers, Tri-Central Trojans and the Rossville Hornets in their annual Hot Dog Invite. The Lady Dogs started the day off taking on an experience Western team that returned several key players from an 11 win team. The Lady Hot Dogs looked to take an early lead 18 minutes into the game when Flor Lopez found the back of the net but the goal was waved off due to Flor being just offside.

The Lady Dogs really controlled the ball quite while and out worked Western to a lot of 50-50 balls. It looked like the score at half-time would be 0-0 but Western took advantage off a counterattack and scored on a really wide shot that went just over keeper Noemi Guijosa.

The Lady Dogs came out of half-time continuing to out work the Panthers but just couldn’t find the back of the net. The Panthers then benefitted from a 50-50 call near the Hot Dog box that they managed to turn into their 2nd goal of the game. The game finished 2-0 in favor of Western.

The loss was the first one that the Lady Dogs had suffered on the season. It also put them in the consolation game against the loser of the Tri-Central/Rossville game.

The consolation game ended up against Tri-Central. The Lady Dogs started off the game with a slightly different lineup than the Western game but couldn’t find the right combination for the first 15 minutes. The Lady Dogs finally got on the board and then didn’t look back. Scoring 7 goals before half-time and another 7 during the 2nd half. The defense also picked up another shutout on the season with the final score being Hot Dogs 14 Trojans 0.

Goals scored by Flor Lopez, Alejandra Hernandez Cruz, Rylee Seibert, Maria Alanis, Yesi Alanis, Nallely Alanis, Emily Kelly, Carolyne Morales, Yadira Lopez and Annie Giebel.

Overall the Lady Dogs are 4-1 on the season and play next Wednesday when they host the Sheridan Blackhawks.
