The LHDS traveled to West Lafayette Saturday to play in the Lafayette Sectional tournament at Coyote Crossing Golf Club. Three teams qualified to move on to Regional play next Saturday in Battle Ground. Lafayette Jeff was crowned Sectional Champs with a team score of 320 outpacing Harrison on their home course with 359 and McCutcheon clinching the final spot with 384. Lafayette Jeff’s Megan Donahue led all scorers earning the Individual Sectional Champion title with 77.
The Lady Hot Dogs played well enough to earn a 5th place finish in the ten-team field firing a 432. Katy Benefiel played steady, and led the team with a consistent round of 90. Sydney Cesare scored a 94, Paige Terry 103, Maddie Swinford 145 and Samantha Sharp 149.
I’m really proud of the girls on this team for the effort and perseverance they showed. It’s been a while since we had this kind of heat to deal with. We were able to maintain focus and compete for 18 holes. These girls showed strong character today.
In addition to three teams qualifying for Regional play, three individuals also move-on from non qualifying teams. The LHDS grabbed two of the three spots. Katy Benefiel and Sydney Cesare both played below their season average to move on and earned the right to compete next week as individuals. We are ecstatic to have two girls qualify. They stayed committed today. They didn’t let a three putt or an errant shot destroy their round. The team is going to celebrate their success with them tonight and tomorrow start looking toward Regionals.
