The Regional round of the IHSAA State Girls Golf Tournament was played Saturday at the Battle Ground Golf Club in the sweltering mid 90 degree heat. Junior Katy Benefiel and Freshman Sydney Cesare earned the right to compete after qualifying at last weeks sectional. Compete they did. These girls played with a lot of heart and represented their school and team well. Katy tied her best 18-hole score of the year firing a round of 86 and Sydney continued to better her 18-hole average with a 97. It took a round of 77 to make the playoff for a chance to move on to the state. When you advance to this level of tournament play things begin to look different. The course setup is nearly 400 yards longer than anything we’ve played all season and the quality of the competition is strong. We more than held our own today, these girls shined brightly for Hot Dog nation! Even though the season has come to an end, this is a stepping-stone for next year when we get everyone on the team back! Congratulations to Katy, Sydney, Paige, Sam, Maddie & Raelyn for a successful season!
