The JV Baseball team has had a busy past few days leading to a very busy week. The streak of 7 games in 8 days kicked off last Friday with a game against North Montgomery. The JV Dogs had some momentum heading into the game riding a 2 game win streak. However, the offense couldn’t find any holes in the Charger Defense and ended up losing 8-1 with the only run coming on a hard single by Ethan Stinson plating Cole Wills.
On Saturday the JV Dogs followed up the marathon of a Varsity game against Crawfordsville by getting the sticks going again and scoring a then season-high 14 runs. Ethan Stinson kept his good game streak alive by going 2-2 at the plate with 2 RBIs and also ended up being the winning pitcher. Hugo Alanis & Adrick Mounts each collected 2 RBIs. This coming off a solid start by Gabe Chavez who came down from the Varsity to get the start and managed to go 5 innings with 8 strikeouts before Ethan came on in relief.
Monday night the Hot Dogs traveled to West Lafayette to play in some drizzly weather and started fairly quick getting 2 quick runs but then in the bottom of the frame allowing West Lafyatte to score 7. This would only be the tip of the iceberg for the two teams as they would combine for 39 runs in the game. With the scoring onslaught, there were several guys that came up big offensively with Cole Wills collecting 4 hits, 2 walks and 7 RBIs, Hugo Alanis 4 hits and 3 RBIs, Eduardo Valdez 2 hits, 2 walks and 4 RBIs, Angel Cruz 3 hits and 3 runs scored, and Jimmy Ostler with 4 walks and 3 runs scored.
In a game that saw the JV Dogs use 4 pitchers, Cole continued the trend of a player stepping up and having a solid 1st pitching outing of the season by covering 3.1 innings in relief and kept the JV Dogs in the game. Cole ended up earning the win which was saved by Adrick Mounts who got the final 2 outs of the game. The West Lafayette win brought the JV record to 4-5 on the season.
