Here are the results from Saturday’s 25th Annual Hot Dog Invitational.
The Lady Hot Dogs played host to the Carroll Cougars, the Greencastle Tiger Cubs and Yorktown Tigers.
In opening round action, Frankfort defeated Greencastle 5-0 whereas Yorktown had a tougher time with Carroll, winning their match 3-2. This set up a repeat of last year’s Championship Match, which the Lady Hot Dogs won.
Yorktown has a very solid tennis team and we knew it would be a tough battle. Emily Michael, at number one singles and Annie Giebel, at the number 2 singles position, both played very well but lost their respective matches. The points were long and their scores don’t reflect the quality of their play. Coach Kelli VanDuyne and I were pleased with how they never gave up.
Riley Isgrigg won her match easily (6-0, 6-0) at the number 3 singles position, as did Lucy Calvert/Rylee Seibert at the number 2 doubles match (6-1, 6-0). This left repeating as the Invitational champions in the hands of our number one doubles team of Abby Pierce and Jalynn Kidwell. There was a lot of pressure on them as they played a very tough Yorktown team. The match went back and forth and the crowd certainly got their money’s worth.
Abby and Jalynn took the first set 6-4. Yorktown fought back, going up 3-2 in the second set but Abby and Jalynn dialed in their game and ended up capturing the second set 6-4. With the win, the Lady Hot Dogs repeated as Champions of the 2018 Hot Dog Invitational. A great day for the team and took their season record to 17-4.
The Lady Hot Dogs next play Monday at home vs. McCutcheon with a 5:15 start time. It’s “Senior Night” as the team celebrates seniors Lucy Calvert and Annie Giebel at 4:45. We hope to see a nice turnout for our last home match of the season.
