Saturday night the Frankfort boys soccer team faced the Crawfordsville Athenians in the sectional 25 final at Lebanon. The third match up of these two teams proved to be an exciting decisive match up as each team had previously won one of the encounters. Ten minutes into the match junior Christofer Hernandez was fouled inside the penalty box. Junior Brian Chavez converted on the penalty kick to give the Hot Dogs the early 1-0 lead. 7 minutes later senior Manuel Garcia would scored for the Hot Dogs giving Frankfort a 2 goal lead. Crawfordsville would show their resilience and score 2 minutes later cutting the Hot Dog lead in half. Frankfort would take the 2-1 lead into halftime. In the second half, the scored remained the same for the first 26 minutes until freshman Damian Lopez scored Frankfort’s third goal of the night. Crawfordsville would again answer 4 minutes later to bring the score to 3-2. Despite the continued late rally push from Crawfordsville, the Athenians would remain scoreless the rest of the game, and Frankfort would hold onto the one goal lead and win the sectional 25 title in front of a large group of Hot Dogs fans. Frankfort’s sectional title makes this back to back years that the Hot Dogs have been sectional champions. Frankfort will face Cardinal Ritter in regional action Saturday, October 13 at noon in the Greensburg regional.
