The JV Baseball season got underway last Friday night in a Varsity/JV Doubleheader. The JV guys had to wait to start their season when the Varsity game went into extra innings. Due to time & weather, the JV game was shortened to a 4 inning affair. The JV Dogs ended up falling by a score of 11-1 with the only run coming via Jimmy Ostler scoring on a passed ball after being hit by a pitch to reach base. The only hit of the night came off the bat of Cole Wills. On the pitching end of things, Benito Lopez & Noah Wilder were battling the cold and couldn’t get a good grip on the ball which allowed the Hornets to draw 9 walks during the 4 innings but they limited the Hornets to only 6 hits.
The JV Dogs didn’t have long to turn things around as they took on another county team on Saturday, Clinton Prairie came to visit. The game was incredibly exciting as both teams played well with the score entering the 7th inning was a 5-3 Hot Dog lead. However, the Gophers managed to string a ton of weak hits together to take a 6 run lead into the bottom of the 7th.
The JV Dogs managed to claw their way back into the game by drawing several walks coupled with some timely hits by Cole Wills, Damian Lopez & Jimmy Ostler. With the winning run coming on a passed ball after Jimmy Ostler had been moved over to 3rd base with 2 outs in the inning. All told the JV Dogs scored 7 runs in the bottom of the 7th to secure the walk-off win while scoring the last 2 runs with 2 outs in the inning.
